Ever since Iowa State University’s men’s club hockey team finalized its 2014-15 schedule this summer, Seth Serhienko has had this next weekend circled on his calendar.
The Cyclones have a busy week ahead of them as they prepare for three road games in as many days. ISU will play against Minot State on Friday and Saturday before visiting Dakota College at Bottineau (DCB) on Sunday afternoon.
Serhienko is no stranger to the Bottineau Community Arena. He played his high school hockey there for Bottineau-Rugby for two and half years before spending two more in his hometown with DCB.
After completing his two years with the Lumberjacks, Serhienko moved on to Ames, Iowa to attend and play for ISU.
He has flourished there, both on the ice and in the classroom. Serhienko carried a 4.0 grade-point average last season - the highest of anyone on his team - and he’s already only three points away from tying his scoring output from last season.
Serhienko will have large cheering sections this weekend in both Minot and Bottineau. His immediate family lives in Bottineau, and many more of his relatives reside in Minot.
Getting to play in both cities in his senior season is an opportunity he’s very much looking forward to.
“I’m pretty excited for the whole weekend,” Serhienko said. “When our schedule came out in the summer and I saw that we were going to Minot and Bottineau, I got really excited for it.
“It’s my last year of hockey, so it’ll be fun to play back home again and play a few more times in front of a lot of familiar faces.”
Sunday’s game in Bottineau is set to start at 1 p.m.
