Cement work in Bottineau has started to repair portions of sidewalks that have become dilapidated due to age or usage.

For close to a decade, Bottineau’s city council members have discussed the issues of sidewalks due to the poor condition of some sidewalks in the city, along with some neighborhoods having no sidewalks at all.

In their discussions, the council made the decision to start fixing sidewalks they deemed necessary to be replaced. After touring the community’s sidewalks, the city sent out notices to residents which stated that their sidewalks would need to be replaced.

Residents were given the option to either replace the sidewalks themselves or the city would do it for them through the city’s cement contractor, Onarheim Construction, and have the bill assessed to their taxes.

This year, 21 residents were sent notices with only one property owner who conducted the cement work.

With 20 left on the list, Onarheim Construction was called in by the city to start replacing the residents’ sidewalks.

According to city auditor Penny Nostdahl, residents who have received notices by mail can either have Onarheim conduct the work for them, or they can still make the repairs through a private contractor.
