DCB’s No. 5 looks good in No. 1 role

Tim Pfeifer is like most head football coaches in that he likes to decide on a starting quarterback early in the season and stick with that choice the rest of the way.
In the first half of Dakota College at Bottineau’s (DCB) 2014 campaign, he didn’t have that luxury.
Three first-year signal-callers came into the season vying for the No. 1 job. Through DCB’s first five games and much of the sixth, though, DeAngelo Orum, Austin Ruiz and Krae Kelso all failed to sufficiently impress the Jacks’ coaching staff.
During DCB’s 13-12 win over Vermilion on Oct. 4, all three Jacks quarterbacks played, but Kelso finished the game and has started each of DCB’s three games since.
The Jacks have won all three of them comfortably by a combined score of 147-46.
Kelso had one of his best days yet on Saturday, running for 113 yards and two touchdowns. He also passed for 199 yards in the rematch against Vermilion and accounted for two more scores through the air.
It’s a team game, though, and the team-minded Kelso puts the Jacks’ recent success down to heightened team chemistry.
“It definitely seems like the more we’re playing together cohesively and getting on the same page, “ Kelso said, “Everyone knows now where to be when.
“We’re making more plays together as a team, and that’s exactly what we want.”
