The Bottineau Park Board’s youth baseball program has received new baseball equipment with an additional $1,000 from two businesses who are strong supporters of the game and our nation’s youth.

The local youth baseball program received the gifts from Chevy’s Youth Baseball Program, in association with Theel Inc. in Bottineau.

“Chevy and Theels contacted the park board here and wondered if we would like to participate in this program,” said Brian Knudson, director of the Bottineau Park District. “Chevy and Theels wanted to provide equipment for the kids’ local baseball program and in return they asked for a Chevy Night out in the park.

“Parents were asked to test drive Chevy vehicles provided by Theels,” Knudson said. “With each vehicle that was driven Chevy donated money to the park’s youth baseball program.”

Well over 20 parents took part in the event and Chevrolet donated the equipment to the park district, along with $500. Theel Inc. matched Chevy’s donation with an additional $500, granting the district $1,000.

The equipment and money goes to the park’s t-ball and coach pitch teams, and includes such items as helmets, chest protectors, bats, balls, tees, bags, a pitcher screen, along with other pieces of equipment.

Knudson stated that the donation to the park district will assist the park board.

“We were looking at having to replace some of our protective equipment for catchers and players and the donations certainly helped and benefited the program with some great new and quality equipment from the program, which benefited the kids,” he said. “In return, having that donation toward the park district helps us cut our cost for the program, which in return helps us keep the program registration fee at a minimum. So, it actually goes all the way back to the participants and the families.

“We are very happy with the Chevy Corporate Office and Theels,” Knudson added.

Terry Holsten, director of the Chevy’s Youth Baseball Program at Theel Inc., stated that Theels is honored to be part of this program.

“We are very pleased to be part of Chevy’s Youth Baseball Program,” Holsten said. “The community gets behind it, the park board gets behind it and it is a great benefit for them to get extra equipment and $1,000 to use toward what other equipment or things they need at the park. The program benefits everyone and keeps the baseball program going.”
