One week after at long last picking up its first win of the season, Bottineau High’s football team was given a reality check on Friday.

The Braves came into their homecoming game against Class A Region 3 rival Des Lacs-Burlington (DL-B) on a high following a 52-14 win at Surrey on Sept. 26. DL-B steamrolled Bottineau 38-7 on Friday, though, to send the Braves (1-5) back down to earth.

The Lakers scored on each of their possesions in the first half and found themselves up 32-0 at the interval. DL-B running backs Eric Knutson and Brett Schaefer did a large chunk of the damage, with Kutson scoring twice in the first half and Schaefer picking up a touchdown of his own.

DL-B ended the game with 226 yards gained on the ground and those three rushing touchdowns. Quarterback Layton Erickson and his throwing arm also came up big thanks to another three scores through the air.

Braves quarterback Brody Moum struggled by comparison, completing one of five passes for 10 yards.

Bottineau running back Ethan Kerslake scored his team’s lone touchdown in the game’s fourth quarter. He finished the game with 98 yards on 22 carries.

“We got overmatched at several positions,” Braves head coach Rob Bedlion said. “We need to be willing to be more physical and take pride in that part of the game. Create contact instead of taking it.”

The Braves will try to get back to winning ways this Friday when they hit the road to face Williams County (2-5) in Ray.
