VIRGINIA, Minn. - Not much went right for the Dakota College at Bottineau (DCB) football team’s offense on Saturday on the road against Mesabi Range.
Luckily for the Lumberjacks, though, their defense came through in a big way.
A field goal, a safety and an interception returned for a touchdown were the only scoring plays in the game. That suited DCB as each of the resulting 12 points went the Jacks’ way in a shutout victory over the Norsemen.
DCB held a razor-thin 5-0 lead at halftime on Saturday thanks to a Drayton Murphy field goal in the first quarter and a safety in the Mesabi Range end zone in the second.
The Lumberjacks finally pulled away in the fourth quarter, though, thanks to an interception returned for a score by freshman defensive back Josh Best. It was his third interception so far this year and second pick-six for the Jacks.
The win moved DCB to 4-1 overall on the season and 2-1 in the Minnesota College Athletic Conference (MCAC) Northern Division.
DCB will host 1-4 Vermilion on Saturday in Bottineau.
