In October, Bottineau resident and State Commander of AMVETS, Keith Peterson, will officially announce his state commander’s project which will be to raise money for the Annie’s House Disabled Veterans Recreation Program.
Although Peterson hasn’t officially announced his commander’s project yet, there is no secret with AMVETS statewide that Peterson has a heart for disabled veterans and granting them the opportunity to participate in everyday recreational activities.
As soon as Peterson was named state commander for North Dakota AMVETS in June, he immediately started placing his project together.
“I am knocking on doors and asking for donations and I’ve put it on Facebook,” Peterson said. “Everybody I talked to, I talked to them about it. My goal is raise $10,000 dollars.”
Besides making people aware of his project and requesting donations, Peterson is currently considering different types of fundraising events.
One of many items Peterson is focusing on for the project is to raise enough money to assist in purchasing a track chair, which grants individuals with limited mobility to enjoy outdoor recreational activities.
This summer, Tim Sanderson and Larry Marchus held a fundraising event to raise money for Annie’s House adaptive ski program for individuals with special needs. The fundraiser brought over $40,000 to the adapted ski program.
This past week, Sanderson and Marchus purchased a track chair for the special needs program at the park. Sanderson and Marchus have also announced that they will be willing to purchase half of another track chair if Peterson can raise the other half of the money. The cost of one track chair is around $15,000.
Peterson will have one year during his command to raise the money for Annie’s House, which will then be presented to the winter park.
