The Dakota College at Bottineau (DCB) volleyball team saw its record fall to 1-8 last week thanks to losses to in-state rivals Williston State and Trinity Bible College.
Williston, which currently sits in first place in the Mon-Dak Conference, swept DCB last Tuesday in Bottineau in a clash between their league’s top and bottom teams. After the Tetons swept her Ladyjacks 25-17, 25-21 and 25-14, DCB head coach Allison Scherr came away frustrated with how a slow start seemed to carry over into the second and third sets.
“The girls just need to realize that we can compete with teams like this,” Scherr said. “Set No. 2 is usually our struggle set, but tonight was 25-21 and it took us half of that first set to get going.
“They need to stay positive and level-headed throughout the whole match from start to finish, because it only takes one play or one person to get down on themselves and then it carries over onto everyone else.”
The Jacks stumbled again on Thursday against Trinity in Ellendale, N.D., eventually losing in four sets (25-17, 17-25, 25-19, 25-22).
DCB played at home Monday night against North Dakota State College of Science and will be at home again Wednesday against Lake Region State.
The Ladyjacks’ week won’t end there, as they will travel to face the University of Jamestown’s junior varsity squad on Thursday before taking part in a tournament in Wahpeton, N.D. on Friday and Saturday.
