WAYNE, Neb. - Former Westhope-Newburg-Glenburn (W-N-G) star Hunter Braaten picked up his first collegiate touchdown on Friday to help lift the Minnesota State-Moorhead football team to a 40-36 win at Wayne State (Neb.)
The former W-N-G quarterback is now a freshman wide receiver for the Dragons of Moorhead, and perhaps his most vital contribution to his new team came during Saturday’s second quarter against the Wildcats.
Moorhead entered halftime up 30-16 on its hosts, and Braaten’s first college football touchdown helped the Dragons get there.
Catching a dart over the middle of the field at the Wayne State 16 yard line from Moorhead quarterback Jake Hodge, Braaten carried the ball in the rest of the way for a 29-yard touchdown.
Braaten ended the game with two catches for 92 yards and that one score. His other reception against the Wildcats went for 63 yards.
In three games played thus far with Moorhead, Braaten has six catches for 129 yards and one touchdown. He’s quickly turning into a big-play threat for the Dragons, as he’s averaging 21.5 yards per catch, which puts him second on the team’s receiving corps in that statistical category.
Moorhead, now 1-2 on the year, is at home this Saturday against Sioux Falls.
