Sioux start slow, still slay Dragons

DUNSEITH - When it rains, it pours.
Westhope-Newburg-Glenburn (W-N-G) was reminded of that idiom on multiple levels last Friday on the road against Dunseith. Despite stumbling out of the blocks somewhat and initially playing sloppy football on a rain-slicked field, the Sioux began to put their mark on the game near the end of the first quarter and didn’t slip up again thereafter.
Dunseith looks much improved compared to how the Dragons have done in recent seasons and appeared on top of things early on Friday with a pair of recovered W-N-G fumbles in the first quarter. The Sioux turned the game around, however, with two quick touchdowns near the end of the first quarter before heading into halftime up 28-6 and not allowing the Dragons to score again in the second half.
“Dunseith has improved quite a bit from what I remember of them,” W-N-G head coach Tom Nesvold said. “They proved they’re heading in the right direction, but we just took care of ourselves and did what we had to do.”
W-N-G quarterback Reese Schell had another good outing, throwing for 81 yards and a touchdown while running for another 89 and scoring three more times on the ground.
The Sioux are on the road again on Friday, this time against Towner-Granville-Upham in Towner.
