A local bar in Westhope has been broken in to where items were stolen and property was damaged to the estimated cost of over $1,000.

Huber Can-Dak Lounge, which is located on Westhope’s Main Street, was burglarized on Sunday night. The individuals that were involved stole an estimated $370 in cash and $991 in merchandise. There was also destruction committed to the property at an unknown cost at the present moment.

Over the past month, there have been a number of crimes in the Westhope area, some of which include the theft of two all terrain vehicles, a car stolen at the Westhope Golf Course and a local resident’s house was broken into by a man who woke the resident up, held an ax to him and demanded money from him, which the gentleman gave to him.

Laber’s Meat Market in Westhope and Tennyson Garage in Antler were broken into also but no money or merchandise was stolen from either business.

The crimes are currently under investigation by the Bottineau County Sheriff’s Department. Steve Watson, sheriff of Bottineau County, is asking for assistance by the local residents in these areas.

“If you hear something strange or see a strange vehicle, make note of it, make note of the time, and call the police department,” Watson said, who also asked local residents to keep their vehicles, homes and property locked in attempts to stop these types of crimes.
