Dakota College at Bottineau’s career fair this past Wednesday saw 284 students attend the event from 10 high schools and four counties with 40 vendors providing the students with career choices and the academic paths the students would have to take to gain the rewards of a career.

“The event went really well. Most students were well prepared by their counselors with insightful questions about their future,” said Carissa Botton, admission counselor for Dakota College at Bottineau.

“Students were encouraged by their counselors to talk to recruiters outside of their comfort zones to explore options they might not have considered.”

Dakota Association for College Admission Counseling (DACAC) hosted the morning session by providing a number of academic and career representatives for the students to visit with, while the North Central Educational Cooperative (NCEC) hosted the afternoon session which provided the young scholars an opportunity to interact in the careers that interested them.

“DACAC is great because it provides a diverse pool of venders that wouldn’t typically travel to our rural community,” Botton said. “The NCEC provided a ton of hands-on activities from local vendors, including a photo booth by DCB Photography and much more.”

Botton stated that students came to DCB from Bottineau, Belcourt, Dunseith, Grandville, Newburg, Rolla, Rugby, St. John, Towner and Westhope. Counties included Bottineau, McHenry, Pierce and Rolette.

She added that some of the vendors included public and private colleges, universities from across the Midwest, technical schools and salon academies, Army ROTC, along with career counselors from financial institutions, North Dakota Firefighters, EMS Recruitment and Retention, North Dakota Energy Awareness and Careers, North Dakota Air National Guard, North Dakota Army National Guard, U.S. Army.
