FAYETTE, Iowa - Former Westhope-Newburg-Glenburn (WNG) star Hunter Braaten made his college football debut Saturday for Minnesota State University-Moorhead (MSU-M) in a 44-36 loss on the road against Upper Iowa.
Braaten had originally been slated to redshirt this year for the Dragons, thus allowing him to stay on with MSU-M for five seasons. That decision was reversed, though, and he was given the opportunity to play as a true freshman.
Braaten, who plays as a wide receiver after having served as a quarterback for W-N-G, made three catches on Saturday for 28 yards. His longest reception against the Peacocks went for 13 yards.
The Dragons will mark their 2014 home opener this Saturday in Moorhead against Minnesota State-Mankato. MSU-M will then round out September with games against Wayne State (Neb.) and Sioux Falls.
