FERGUS FALLS, Minn. - The Dakota College at Bottineau (DCB) football team continued its unbeaten start to the 2014 season on Saturday by defeating Minnesota State-Fergus Falls on the road by a 24-20 count.
Backup DCB quarterback Krae Kelso led the way for the Lumberjacks on Saturday after starter DeAngelo Orum went out of the game with what’s believed to be a minor shoulder injury.
Kelso threw for 124 yards and two touchdowns against Fergus Falls and also led DCB in rushing with 40 yards gained on the ground.
Lumberjack wide receiver Kaian Duverger also had a big day for DCB, snagging six passes for 104 yards and two touchdowns.
DCB needed its defense to show up on Saturday against the Spartans, and the Lumberjacks’ defensive corps shut the door often enough to help its team pick up a win in its first-ever Minnesota College Athletic Conference (MCAC) road game.
Linebacker Josh Best, who made one interception on Aug. 23 against Minnesota West and returned it for a touchdown, had another pick-six on Saturday to help lead the Lumberjacks in the defensive backfield.
The rest of the defense showed up, as well, with DCB stopping Fergus Falls twice on fourth-down conversion attempts at key points in the game.
The Lumberjacks return home this Saturday to face MCAC North Division rival Central Lakes. That game is scheduled to kick off at 12 p.m.
