The numbers for prevent plant in Bottineau County are completed and they show that the county’s outcome from last summer has improved by around 50 percent.

According to Jared Nelson, NDSU extension agent for Bottineau County, Bottineau County’s prevent plant total equaled out to 22 percent in 2014, which is down from 2013 when prevent plant totals were around 35 to 40 percent.

Last year, Bottineau County was ranked second in the state for prevent plant. Nelson stated that this year the county is ranked in the top five counties.

Almost a quarter of crop land was not seeded this year due to wet weather. Over the past two years, the weather has kept crop producers out of the field due to flooded fields.

Although prevent plant is down this year, the fields that were planted have also struggled with disease due to the wet weather, leaving the majority of the crops with little or no value.
