Cathy Claeys has accepted the position of councilwoman on Bottineau’s City Council and will begin the position immediately. She takes the seat held by Jeff Hall, who chose not to run for another term on the council.

Claeys grew up on her family farm near Maddock, N.D., near the Sheyenne River Valley.

She graduated from Maddock High School and went on to earn her associate degree in business administration from Mayville State College and a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Phoenix.

She is employed as the business office administrator for Matt Glasner’s Edward Jones office.

Claeys made the decision to become an alderman because she wants to assist Bottineau’s residents in their goals for the city, along with keeping Bottineau’s economic growth moving forward, but at the same time keeping its hometown principles in place.

“I want to be actively involved in our community by being a part of the local government process. I look forward to working and collaborating with others to best serve the interests of the citizens of Bottineau,” Claeys said.

“The success and significant growth in both the agricultural and oil and gas industries in our region brings economic vibrancy to our city. Fast pace growth sometimes presents unique challenges. Our goal in dealing with these challenges should be to work hard at maintaining our small town culture. Bottineau is a place where we take pride in our city and care about our neighbors. We should stay true to these core values as we contemplate the challenges ahead,” she added.

Claeys’ position is a four year term.
