The Dakota College at Bottineau (DCB) softball team has traversed the Midwest in search of talent to add to the Ladyjacks’ roster, and their efforts have proved successful.

DCB’s recruiting strategy appears to have branched out even further now, as the Ladyjacks’ latest signing comes from the west region of the United States.

Infielder Marisol Rodriguez of Wendover, Nev., is the latest signing by fall softball head coach Mike Getzloff. Getzloff will guide the Ladyjacks through their fall exhibition season while new softball coach Allison Scherr fulfills her other new duty as the school’s new head volleyball coach.

Rodriguez was a three-sport athlete for West Wendover High School. On top of serving as a standout on the Wolverines’ softball team, she also played on the school’s girls’ basketball and volleyball squads.

She played on West Wendover’s varsity softball teams in each of the four years of her high school career. Her final two seasons with the Wolverines proved to be particularly successful as she served as one of the team’s upperclassman leaders.

In her junior season at West Wendover, Rodriguez was named both the Wolverines’ offensive and defensive player of the year. She was also a Nevada Class 2A Division 3 first-team selection in 2013.

In the team’s 2014 season, Rodriguez was named the Wolverines’ defensive player of the year and most valuable player overall. She served as a team co-captain in her senior campaign, and she ended up a second-team all-division selection.

Rodriguez’s offensive stats for her senior season are especially impressive. She posted a .394 batting average and .506 on-base percentage while driving in 21 runs and scoring 26 herself.

“Marisol will be a great addition to our team,” Getzloff said. “Her stats show that she can hit the ball and drive in runs. She will get some time for us at third base and perhaps also first.

“We can use her as a designated hitter, as well, so we’re excited about the versatility she’s going to offer to our team.”
