Halloween traditionally falls on Oct. 31. When the opportunity comes to celebrate the holiday twice per year, though, people are always going to take part.
That’s exactly what happened last weekend at Lake Metigoshe State Park. In hosting its ninth annual “Halloween in July” event, park guests were able to get an earlier-than-expected fix on all things ghoulish.
The three-day event kicked off Friday during a photo hunt at the park’s ampitheater. Guests were envited to find Halloween-themed points of interest around the park.
On Saturday morning, campers and other guests at the park braved unseasonably cold and wet weather to take part in trick-or-treating. Children got a chance to dress up in their costumes well before the traditional Halloween season, and several adults spotted around the Modern Campground area also dressed for the occasion.
Campers at the park very much got into the spirit of the event by decking out their campsites with Halloween-themed displays. Many park guests set up elaborate pieces such as hand-painted signs, mocked-up coffins and large inflatable displays.
Sunday morning saw the park hold a Halloween arts and crafts event. Children of all ages were invited to the park’s ampitheater to take part.
