This past week in Bottineau a home was broken into and a vehicle was stolen that was parked in the street.
Local law enforcement is asking residents in and around Bottineau to start locking their homes and vehicles.
One family’s home just outside of Bottineau on Highway 5 had a television stolen from their house after being away from their home for only three hours.
The couple went to Bottineau for a medical appointment at 2 p.m. and when they returned back to their property at 5 p.m. they discovered their television had been stolen from the house.
The family members had shut their garage door and front door but did not lock the front door.
Another resident in Bottineau had his 2011 Dodge Ram pickup stolen off the street in Bottineau.
The owner had left the vehicle’s doors unlocked with the keys inside.
The vehicle was later found completely totaled and with its tires missing.
Steve Watson, sheriff of Bottineau County, stated that individuals in the area should start locking their homes, garages and vehicles whether they are on the street or in their garages.
Watson added that people should also take the keys out of their vehicles; and that owners of vehicles and homes should keep their keys on them and not hide them on the property where thieves can find them and use them against the property or vehicle owner.
The crimes that have taken place are currently under investigation by law enforcement.
