The Bottineau Country Club was broken into this past Thursday night and the individuals involved caused thousands of dollars of damage.

According to Sheriff Steve Watson, the incident that happened at the country club took place after dark Thursday night.

The individuals who committed the crimes broke into the golf cart storage garage and stole two golf carts owned by club members, opened the shed’s door and took them out on to the club’s property and caused considerable damage to the carts.

The individuals also took the club’s Gator utility vehicle from the club’s work shed and used the vehicle to damage over 30 trees on the course by running over them, along with damaging the steel posts that protect the trees.

The Gator was severely damaged, too, which included knocking off the hood of the vehicle, damaging a headlight, cracking the body of the Gator and bending the key to the vehicle.

Outside of the damage to the trees, two golf carts and Gator, the individual(s) also destroyed yardage makers on the course, nine flags on the greens, rode over the greens and course leaving tire marks and caused damage to the cart garage and shed.

Watson stated that these crimes were irrational.

“It is senseless to do that to people who like golfing. Once you get out on the course it is pretty scenic and everything. People who take care of the grounds do an excellent job on it, and to have some individuals destroy what is there is senseless,” Watson said.

“It takes somebody who doesn’t have a lot of guts to do it in the dark. Its takes the sap out of the people who utilize the course, it is a senseless crime and a lot of people are going to be mad about it.”

The incident is still under investigation. Watson is asking that if anybody knows anything about these crimes that they call him at 228-2740 or 228-3422.

Watson added that there might be an award given to the individual(s) who assists in solving this crime.
