The Dakota College at Bottineau (DCB) softball team’s strategy of recruiting throughout the Midwest has paid off yet again.

Sara Schaefer, a recent graduate of Anaconda High School in Anaconda, Mont., became last week the Ladyjacks’ most recent signing. She is coming off a 2014 senior season in which she helped lead the Copperheads to a berth in the Montana Class A state softball tournament.

Schaefer was a first-team all-conference selection this year as well as an all-state pick. She earned a varsity letter for AHS all four years there and started as a third baseman in her junior and senior seasons.

DCB’s latest signing first made a name for herself in her junior season at AHS. In 2013, she was a second-team all-conference selection.

She finished the 2014 season with 33 hits from 79 at-bats. Schaefer also drove in 25 runs and had five home runs, five doubles and three triples.

Schaefer posted a .418 batting average in her senior season with the Copperheads. Furthermore, she recorded a .528 on-base percentage in 2014.

Ladyjacks fall softball head coach Mike Getzloff said that he plans to move Schaefer into the Ladyjacks’ outfield.

“She shouldn’t have any problems making the move as she is very athletic,” Getzloff said. “She will be a great fit for our program. She is a smart kid who loves to play the game of fast-pitch softball. She is a left-handed hitter with some pop in her bat.

“I look for her to contribute in a big way this next season.”
