Early this spring, Tim Sanderson and Larry Marchus came up with an idea to assist the Bottineau Winter Park’s adaptive ski program which was in need of financial assistance.
The idea to them was a simple one, throw a party, offer some good food, give some great prizes away and raise lots of money.
On Saturday evening, Sanderson and Marchus, along with many helpful volunteers, threw one great party inside Annie’s House at the Bottineau Winter Park.
The event brought over 300 individuals from around the area and Canada to the winter park who donated what is estimated to be around $40,000 for the park’s adaptive ski program.
The idea for Saturday evening’s event came easy to Sanderson and Marchus, but getting to the event was no easy task.
They went out and acquired a number of expensive prizes, sold tickets, set up the food and venue for the event and recruited a number of volunteers, all of which did a remarkable job in making the event one to remember.
One of those volunteers was Sherwood Haakenson from Willow City. During the event, Haakenson was honored for selling the most raffle ticket books for the fundraiser, which was over 50 books.
Sanderson was pleased with the event.
“I think it went super,” Sanderson said. “We were overwhelmed by the amount of people who came, which was just great.”
The money raised will now be used to assist adaptive skiers at the Bottineau Winter Park during the winter months, along with the Park’s summer activities for adaptive people.
Mark Cerkowniak, director of the Adaptive Ski Program, is thankful for the event.
“Tim and Larry did an incredible job,” Cerkowniak said. “And, the communities’ help was great.”
