Three Lumberjacks, DCB hockey team earn NJCAA academic awards

Three student-athletes representing Dakota College at Bottineau (DCB) have been honored by the country’s junior college athletics governing body for achievements away from the fields of play.
Included in the National Junior College Athletic Association’s (NJCAA) list of Academic Student-Athlete Awards for the 2013-14 school year were two members of DCB’s baseball team and one Lumberjack hockey player.
Bottineau native and DCB infielder and pitcher Cody Brooks earned a 3.91 grade-point average (GPA) in his second and final year at the school.
DCB pitcher and outfielder Greg Thompson of Hatton, N.D., posted a 3.72 GPA in the last school year.
“Cody Brooks and Greg Thompson are great young men,” DCB baseball head coach Travis Martin said.“They will go on to do great things because of their hard work and dedication in the classroom.
“Lumberjack baseball was lucky to have had these two men on the team for the last two seasons,” Martin continued.
DCB hockey forward Lucas Lindholm was also honored after posting a 3.64 GPA over the course of the 2013-14 school year.
Furthermore, the DCB icers were named as the NJCAA’s 2013-14 men’s ice hockey academic team of the year. The squad posted a combined 3.01 GPA last year.
“We are proud of the players for being leaders in the classroom and trying to do the right things,” DCB hockey head coach Travis Rybchynski said. “We are proud of the players for being leaders in the classroom.”
