North Dakota State University’s (NDSU) club hockey team came into Bottineau this past weekend and swept the home team Dakota College at Bottineau (DCB) in a two-game series.

Both games were competitive as the Bison topped the Jacks 6-5 in overtime on Friday, and 4-2 in Saturday afternoon’s contest.

DCB looked strong early on in Friday’s game as they took a quick 2-0 lead with goals from Reed Loucks and Matt Melhaff. Cody Anderson, Brett Hebel and James Kelly all had helpers on the goals.

NDSU answered back with a goal at 14:23 to cut the score within one.

Kelly fired back less than a minute later with his first collegiate goal to extend the Jacks lead. Melhaff assisted on the play.

The Bison were able to tie the game early in the second frame with two goals in the first 2:35 of the period.

Drew Ross put the Jacks back on top at 8:56 of the second period. Hebel and Loucks each were credited with assists.

NDSU once again knotted the game with a power play goal early in the third, and then took the lead with a goal at 13:44 of the final frame.

DCB evened it 5-5 about a minute and a half later as Kelly notched his second goal of the game thanks to a CJ Westlake pass.

However, the game ended 1:24 into the overtime as the Bison slipped their sixth goal past DCB goaltender Ryan Miner. Miner finished with 28 saves in 34 opportunities.

The Jacks again were on the losing end on Saturday afternoon as the Bison went home with a sweep after a 4-2 victory.

In this game the Bison took the lead first as they scored on a power play goal at 13:49 of the first period.

Hebel tied the game for the Jacks with 14 ticks left in the first. Kelly was credited with the assist on the goal.

The Bison took back the lead at 13:44 of the second period as they scored another goal on netminder Jesse Fountaine.

Kelly evened the score at two with a goal less than a minute later. Sophomores Lucas Lindholm and Evan Alexius assisted on the play.
The Bison secured the win in the final frame as they scored goals at the 13:39 and 19:29 marks.

DCB out shot the Bison 38-30 in the losing effort.

The sweep drops the Jacks to 0-4. They were swept at home last weekend by the Winkler Royals.

The Jacks look to turn things around next weekend as they hit the road for a stop in St. Cloud, Minn. There they will play both St. Johns University JV and Concordia Wisconsin JV.
