The Westhope-Newburg offense was stifled, while the top-ranked Bishop Ryan girls basketball team’s offense was fueled in a 72-11 win by the Lions last Thursday.

It was the fifth straight loss for the Sioux as they have begun the year 0-5.

The Lions defense was on full display as they held the Sioux to just one point in the first quarter and three in the first half. Westhope-Newburg found some offense in the second half as Bailey Tofteland had four points and Jade Teske netted three.

The twin towers of Gabbie Bohl (20 points) and Hannah Stewart (14 points) had strong games for the Lions in the win. Maddie Wald also added 12 points in victory.

Bishop Ryan had a 20-1 lead after one quarter and 35-3 at the half, while running to a 61-point win.
The Sioux search for their first win with games at 7:15 p.m. at Berthold on Tuesday, and at 7:15 p.m. at home (in Newburg) against Our Redeemers on Friday night.
